Birthday Travels

It's my birthday so I took a little trip -- to the grocery store. There's no better place for stalking the wild asparagus.

No wild asparagus, but I found yellow onions from Colorado, Butter Gold potatoes from Texas, fresh herbs -- bay leaves, basil, rosemary, parsley -- from California, and tomatoes from Ruby's roadside market.

A couple of tips: Scatter a few bay leaves in your cupboards. The aroma keeps bugs at bay. Next tip - put a sprig of fresh basil and a sprig of parsley on your sandwich. It's better than lettuce.

And I'm a regular Martha Stewart today. Do you want my recipe for shortbread cookies?
